Description
Photogrammetric Dataset for the Erote with hare (inv. N.6533)
The 3D model of the Erote with hare (inv. N.6533) was created using a Photogrammetric dataset, which includes:
- RGB Photographic Dataset captured in the visible spectrum.
- Metashape Workspace File: the project file containing the photogrammetric processing workflow to generate the statue 3D model.

- Research focus Description
This small statuette was found inside a niche in the viridarium of the House of Camillus, VII 12, 22.23, in Pompeii. It dates to the end of the 1st century AD. The small sculpture portrays an erote holding a small hare or rabbit. His right hand is raised, as if to wield or hold an accessory, while in his left hand, he grasps the animal by its hind legs, with its mouth open to facilitate the flow of water. The iconographic tradition is extensive, reaching back to the 5th century BC: while the dominant theme initially revolved around hunting, submission, and/or killing of the animal, over time, the motif shifted towards themes far removed from predation, transforming into a sexual allusion, where the lover seduces by gifting a hare. However, it cannot be excluded that in this depiction, the artist merely intended to portray a childhood game, often cruel at times, involving the capture and subsequent killing of the animal for playful purposes.

- Method Description
Three-dimensional digital models have been created using Agisoft Metashape, which performs photogrammetric processing of digital images and generates 3D spatial data. The created models usually need some refinements and editing to correct imperfections or errors on the surface. These operations were performed by Blender an open-source system for processing and editing 3D triangular meshes, which provides a set of tools for editing and texturing meshes.
